Johnny Morant (b. 1982, Hong Kong) is a UK based artist exhibiting and collected internationally.  He works with three galleries and is regularly selected for group exhibitions, art fairs and venue installations.

"My work aims to offset contemporary views with those of the past. I find grand figurative expressions by the likes of Rubens which epitonised the zeitgeist of their time, form a dramatic contrast with digitisation and disinformation which is very much the spirit of our time."

"...for the really explicit areas of a painting I use the most contemporary and ubiquitous mark in my arsenal -the pixel.  Often enlarged to censor material, the rigid edges of the pixel contrast sharply with Rubens' fluid brushwork, creating a striking delineation between traditional and contemporary techniques.  I believe this intentional clash of formats can evoke questions about the evolution of art and the impact of technology, while exploring our relationship with uncomfortable events of the past."
